India Rebukes Pakistan at UN Security Council Meeting Over Kashmir Remarks

India strongly criticised Pakistan at an informal United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Arria-formula meeting, accusing Islamabad of making “unwarranted” remarks on Jammu and Kashmir and attempting to misuse an international platform to advance its political agenda. The sharp exchange took place during a discussion convened by China and Pakistan, where regional security and peace-related issues were on the agenda.
Responding to Pakistan’s comments, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, reaffirmed New Delhi’s position that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and remains entirely within its sovereign jurisdiction. He stated that Pakistan’s repeated attempts to raise the issue at international forums were baseless and disconnected from the purpose of the meeting.
Harish told the gathering that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and will always remain” a part of India, stressing that no amount of rhetoric or misinformation could alter this reality. He argued that Pakistan’s efforts to internationalise the matter had consistently failed to gain traction among the international community and had become a recurring tactic at multilateral forums.
The Indian envoy further accused Pakistan of diverting attention from issues within its own borders by repeatedly bringing up Kashmir in global discussions. According to India, such interventions undermine meaningful debate on pressing international concerns and distract from broader efforts aimed at maintaining peace and security.
India also reiterated that all matters concerning Jammu and Kashmir are internal issues and are not subject to external mediation or intervention. New Delhi maintained that any outstanding concerns between India and Pakistan should be addressed bilaterally, in line with existing agreements between the two countries. The latest diplomatic confrontation highlights the continuing tensions between the two neighbours at the United Nations. Pakistan has frequently sought to raise the Kashmir issue before international bodies, while India has consistently rejected such efforts, asserting that the region is an inseparable part of the country.
