A murder investigation in Maharashtra’s Pune district took a dramatic turn after a seemingly insignificant detail captured on CCTV footage helped police uncover a chilling conspiracy behind the death of a young trekker. Investigators said a man wearing a hoodie despite temperatures hovering around 33 degrees Celsius became the crucial clue that exposed what was initially believed to be an accidental fall.
The victim, 26-year-old Ketan Agrawal, a real estate businessman from Pune, died after plunging into a gorge at Lohagad Fort during a trek on June 18. In the immediate aftermath, the incident was treated as an accident. Ketan’s fiancée, Siya Goyal, who was accompanying him at the time, reportedly told authorities that he lost his footing while taking photographs near the edge of the fort and fell into the valley below.
However, Ketan’s family questioned the accident theory, pointing out that he was an experienced trekker and unlikely to have slipped so easily. Their concerns prompted police to conduct a more detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
During the probe, officers reviewed CCTV footage from locations around the trekking route and noticed a man dressed in a hoodie despite the sweltering weather conditions. The unusual attire immediately raised suspicion. Further examination revealed that the man had been following the couple and was later identified as Chetan Chaudhary.
Police allege that Chaudhary and Siya Goyal were involved in a relationship and had conspired to murder Ketan ahead of his planned wedding. Investigators claim the pair had made multiple unsuccessful attempts to kill him before carrying out the final plan at Lohagad Fort. According to the police, Chaudhary reached the trekking site separately and pushed Ketan into the gorge while Goyal allegedly played a role in facilitating the crime.nBoth Goyal and Chaudhary have since been arrested and booked in connection with the murder.
The case has shocked Pune and drawn national attention, with investigators continuing to gather evidence to strengthen the prosecution’s case against the accused.
