Jhargram: Employees working under the National Health Mission (NHM), National Urban Health Mission (NUHM), and the 15th Finance Commission (XV-FC) in Jhargram district submitted a detailed memorandum to the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), Dr. Bhuvan Chandra Hansda, on Thursday. The memorandum outlined their long-standing demands and grievances.

Led by Medical Officer Dr. Somnath Maiti, the delegation met with the CMOH at his office to discuss various concerns. The employees emphasized their important role in the public health system, especially during challenging periods like the COVID-19 pandemic. They noted their significant contribution to providing healthcare services to marginalized urban populations.

Despite their dedication, the employees stated that they do not receive equal pay or benefits compared to regular government staff. They called for “equal pay for equal work” and highlighted the lack of financial and social security faced by contractual workers who perform the same duties as permanent employees.

The memorandum also raised concerns about job insecurity, career stagnation, and financial difficulties caused by years of contractual employment. These factors have affected the mental and social well-being of the employees and their families.

The delegation urged the government to offer regular and permanent appointments to long-serving eligible employees. They further demanded access to service benefits, pensions, medical facilities, and other welfare schemes.

The employees stressed that their efforts have been essential to the success of many Health Department programs, and they requested priority attention to their issues. They asked the Health Department to forward their memorandum to higher authorities for quick and positive action.

Dr. Bhuvan Chandra Hansda listened carefully to the employees’ concerns and acknowledged the validity of several demands. He assured the delegation that a copy of the memorandum would be sent to Swasthya Bhavan and that the issues would be brought to the relevant department for necessary steps.

A large number of employees from NHM, NUHM, and the XV Finance Commission were present at the memorandum submission. The employees expressed hope that the government will consider their demands sympathetically and take appropriate measures soon.
