Nine Dead, 20 Injured in Kolkata Warehouse Collapse; Compensation Announced

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari informed the State Assembly that nine people lost their lives and 20 others were injured after an under-construction warehouse collapsed in Kolkata’s Taratala area. Of the injured, one remains in critical condition while four others are reported to be seriously injured.

The Chief Minister announced compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of each deceased and ₹1 lakh for every injured person. He also confirmed that five individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident and assured strict action against those responsible.

Adhikari stated that preliminary findings indicated defects in the approved building plan. Following the tragedy, the state government has suspended work on all under-construction commercial projects approved by the previous administration until July 31 and ordered a comprehensive audit of such projects across West Bengal.
