Following ChatGPT, GPT-5 will soon be available on your iPhones

OpenAI introduced its GPT-5 update on Thursday, claiming significant enhancements over the current GPT and reasoning models. The new model has taken over from GPT-4o as the standard model on ChatGPT and is ready to be launched on iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices with the arrival of Apple’s forthcoming iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26, according to a report from 9to5Mac.

It is important to mention that Apple utilizes ChatGPT within its Siri voice assistant to handle more intricate requests and provide detailed responses. Similar to the ChatGPT application, GPT-4o was the primary model to which Siri routed user inquiries, but with GPT-5 now assuming control of the AI chatbot, all these requests would shortly be processed by the new model.

According to the report, GPT-5 might be available on Apple devices as soon as next month. This appears probable since Apple is expected to introduce its iPhone 17 series in early September, which is typically accompanied by new iOS updates

GPT-5 will continue to complete the tasks which its predecessor did in Apple Intelligence. Here’s a list of where iPhone users will be able to access GPT-5 on their device.

1) Ansering questions on Siri:

As earlier stated, Siri does direct more complex queries to ChatGPT this also includes requests related to photos and documents.

2) Writing tools:

iPhone users will be able to use GPT-5 to proofread, rewrite or summarize text through a number of Apple and Third party apps this includes Notes, Messages, mail and Pages apps.

3) Visual Intelligence:

Apple users will now be able to use GPT-5 on Visual intelligence to leverage their phone’s camera in order to gather information about their surroundings.

OpenAI claims that GPT-5 shows significant enhancements over earlier models in fields such as coding, writing, reasoning, precision, health-related queries, and beyond. The updated model reportedly experiences fewer hallucinations (fabricating information) and displays less sycophancy (being overly compliant with the user).

GPT-5 features an efficient model along with a GPT-5 Thinking model, and unlike before where users needed to select a model based on their needs, ChatGPT now accesses the appropriate model via a real-time router. Although the exact function of this mechanism on Apple devices remains uncertain, it seems probable that the reasoning skills of GPT-5 might be incorporated into Apple Intelligence
