In a tragic incident in Maharashtra’s Sangli district, two women lost their lives and two men are in critical condition following a suspected case of family mass suicide. The incident took place in Nangole village near Dhalgaon Road on Friday morning, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Rameja Alauddin Patil and 30-year-old Kajal Sameer Patil. The two critically ill men are Alauddin Makbool Patil and Sameer Alauddin Patil, both of whom are currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. Two young children from the family, fortunately, were found unharmed and are now under police care.
According to police sources, a senior family member discovered the unconscious individuals inside their home and immediately raised an alarm. Neighbors rushed to the scene and helped transport the victims to the hospital. Despite efforts to save them, the two women were declared dead on arrival.
Authorities recovered several suspicious items at the scene, including four glasses, a knife, lemons, and a toxic chemical commonly used in veterinary applications, suggesting deliberate ingestion. Investigators suspect that the family may have consumed the poison voluntarily, although the exact motive remains unclear.
Senior police officials, including Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sunil Salunkhe and Inspector Jyotiram Patil, conducted a site inspection and initiated a formal investigation. The Kavathe Mahankal police have registered a case and are awaiting forensic reports to confirm the nature of the substance involved.
As the community reels from the shock, police are questioning relatives and reviewing possible financial or domestic stressors that may have led to the drastic step. The children remain safe in protective custody as officials work to unravel the circumstances behind this heart-wrenching event.
