Yash Raj Films (YRF) has firmly rejected online rumours suggesting that the promotional campaign for its latest release Mardaani 3 was tied to reports about hundreds of missing people in Delhi. The film, starring Rani Mukerji and released on January 30, centres on a police officer investigating organised crime involving missing girls, a theme that coincided with the emergence of viral claims about a sharp rise in disappearances across the national capital.

In recent days, social media posts and influencer content began circulating widely online, asserting that more than 800 people, including many young girls, had gone missing in a short period in Delhi. The posts sparked alarm among netizens, who linked the narrative to broader concerns about women’s safety and questioned whether the publicity around Mardaani 3 was exploiting real-world anxieties for marketing impact.

The Delhi Police publicly addressed the uproar, stating that while official data on missing persons remains consistent with longer-term figures, the heightened attention and framing of the numbers had been amplified through paid promotions that created unnecessary panic. Authorities warned that deliberate spread of misleading content for monetary gain would be met with strict action.

Responding to the controversy, a spokesperson for Yash Raj Films described the allegations as unfounded and emphasised the studio’s long history of ethical conduct. The company said it has always maintained transparency and reiterated its confidence in the integrity of the authorities to clarify facts. YRF stressed that there was no involvement by the film’s promotional team in generating or amplifying the viral narrative.
