After The Disastrous T20 World Cup, The Selection Committee As A Whole Is Fired, And Virat Kohli Trends
In its first significant move under its new president Roger Binny, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to call for new applications for the five national selector positions, and in the process, it dismissed the whole panel, which was chaired by former fast bowler Chetan Sharma. The choice was made following the second consecutive T20 World Cup elimination. Last year, the Men in Blue were unable to go past the group round, but last week, they were defeated by eventual victors England in the semifinals.
Ex-Indian captain Virat Kohli became a social media trend as soon as the BCCI issued a statement. The entire Kohli captaincy story, in which he switched from serving as captain in all three forms to none of them, was quickly recalled by the crowd.
Kohli stated his decision to step down as T20 skipper after the T20 World Cup in 2021 even before the competition. But a month later, the selectors decided they only wanted one white-ball leader, so they withdrew him from the ODI captaincy as well. While the former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and Sharma claimed that they had asked Kohli to reconsider his decision to give up the captaincy in T20s, the former captain refuted both of them, claiming that he had only learned of his removal as the ODI captain 90 minutes prior to the meeting. After losing to South Africa a month later, Kohli renounced his position as captain in the longest format as well.
Now that the BCCI has made its most recent decision, Indian fans are happy that the new president is making several important decisions to right the wrongs and that Kohli, who endured a lot over the course of three to four months, is receiving justice.
A five-person selection panel headed by Chetan Sharma was chosen on December 20. Abey Kuruvilla, Debasis Mohanty, Sunil Joshi, and Harvinder Singh were on the panel. Kuruvilla had served as a selector for five years by the end of 2021, but the four-member panel had been in operation since before her removal.
