Nokia Phone Helps Identify Skeleton At Hyderabad House, Scrapped Notes Found

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 15th July 2025

The skeletal remains found in an abandoned house in Hyderabad on Monday are believed to belong to Ameer Khan, who is thought to have passed away a decade ago, police reported on Tuesday.

In a house in Nampally owned by Muneer Khan, an old Nokia mobile phone and demonetized currency notes were discovered. Authorities reported that Muneer fathered 10 children; his third son, Ameer, resided alone in the home while the others relocated.

The remains were discovered on Monday when a video recorded by a nearby resident, who went into the house to retrieve a cricket ball that had dropped inside, appeared. In the video, the skeleton is observed positioned face down on the floor of what seemed to be the kitchen. Various tools are also observed scattered near the human remains.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kishan Kumar informed NDTV that the phone, which had a dead battery, indicated that the skeletal remains belonged to Ameer. Upon repairing and restoring the device, 84 missed calls from 2015 were discovered in the call log.

“The man was probably about 50, single and possibly mentally disturbed,” Mr Kumar said. “He has been dead for a few years now, even the bones began crumbling. We found no signs of struggle or blood marks. It may have been a natural death.”

“He must have died 10 years ago. It appears that none of his siblings or associates tried to check on him,” he added.

In addition to the phone, devalued currency notes were located beneath a pillow, reinforcing the year of death before the 2016 demonetisation incident.

The younger brother of the man, Shadab, who collected rent from local shops, recognized a finger ring and shorts discovered on the skeletal remains, the ACP stated.

On Monday, a CLUES team—an expert group dedicated to crime scene investigation and evidence gathering—visited the residence and gathered samples for additional analysis. The human remains were taken to the mortuary for a professional assessment to determine the identity of the deceased individual.
