From Footpath to Factory Floor: Rashmi Group Appoints Qualified Engineer Ratan Bagal as Chemist

Kharagpur, West Bengal : Orissa Metaliks Pvt. Ltd., Unit-I, a key unit of the Rashmi Group, has offered a direct appointment to Ratan Bagal, a qualified Chemical Engineer from Jhargram, as Chemist in the Demineralization (DM) Plant under its Captive Power Plant Division. The appointment letter was handed over by Bhaskar Chaudhuri, Executive Director of Rashmi Group, highlighting the company’s commitment to merit and talent.
Ratan Bagal, aged 33, completed his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) in 2015, securing a DGPA of 7.59. Despite his strong academic background and technical expertise, he faced considerable hardships over the years. His earlier professional experience includes five years in a detergent manufacturing firm, followed by employment at a fertilizer company in Kharagpur.
Most recently, due to financial constraints, he worked as a ward boy in a Kolkata hospital through a private contractor. Owning no property at times even spending nights on footpaths near Howrah Station to support his family.
Bagal perseverance was previously recognized with a certificate of appreciation from Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, former Governor of West Bengal.
Following media coverage that brought his plight to light, Orissa Metaliks Pvt. Ltd., Unit-I, thoroughly evaluated his academic credentials and industrial experience. Finding him technically proficient and well-suited for the role, the company extended the appointment on merit.
