Ed Sheeran Reveals How Shah Rukh Khan Led Him to Bollywood Debut With King Song Tu Mil Jaaye

International pop star Ed Sheeran has revealed how Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan played a key role in bringing him on board for the upcoming film King. Sheeran has collaborated with Indian singer Arijit Singh on the romantic track Tu Mil Jaaye, marking his latest musical association with the Indian film industry.

Speaking about the collaboration, Sheeran said Shah Rukh had encouraged him to create a song for his upcoming film when they first met. The British singer revealed that their conversation eventually led to his involvement in the soundtrack of King, which also stars Deepika Padukone.

The collaboration developed during Sheeran’s recent visit to India. The singer had visited Shah Rukh’s Mumbai residence to request the actor’s appearance in the music video for his track Sapphire, featuring Arijit Singh. During their meeting, Shah Rukh introduced him to music composers Sachin-Jigar, paving the way for the Bollywood project.

Sheeran revealed that he subsequently wrote and recorded his contribution to Tu Mil Jaaye on the same night. Expressing excitement about the project, he said he particularly enjoyed the fact that Arijit Singh was also singing on the track. He described the collaboration as an opportunity to work with several people he admires.

Composed by Sachin-Jigar, the romantic song features Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. It was released on November 2, coinciding with the Bollywood superstar’s 61st birthday. Sheeran also shared a behind-the-scenes recording video on Instagram, giving fans a glimpse of the song’s creation. Directed by Siddharth Anand, King features an ensemble cast that includes Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji and Jackie Shroff, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.

The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 24, 2026. The collaboration between Sheeran and Arijit has generated considerable interest among music and film fans, bringing together two internationally recognised musical voices for one of Bollywood’s anticipated releases.
