In a significant moment for the Indian armed forces, Captain Lalrinawma Sailo of the elite 4 PARA (Special Forces) has been conferred the prestigious Kirti Chakra, becoming the first officer from Mizoram to receive the honour.

The Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award after the Ashoka Chakra, is given for exceptional bravery away from the battlefield. Captain Sailo was recognised for his courage and leadership during a high-risk operation, though specific details remain classified due to the sensitive nature of Special Forces missions.

A native of Mizoram, Sailo’s achievement has been widely celebrated in his home state, where it is being seen as a proud milestone. His recognition highlights the increasing contribution of the Northeast to India’s defence services and serves as an inspiration for aspiring youth from the region.

Captain Sailo’s journey reflects years of dedication and rigorous training. He is an alumnus of premier institutions such as the Rashtriya Indian Military College, the National Defence Academy, and the Indian Military Academy, before being commissioned into the Indian Army and later inducted into the Para Special Forces—one of the most demanding units in the military. The honour has drawn praise from state leaders and officials, who have lauded his bravery and commitment to national service. His accomplishment not only underscores individual heroism but also shines a spotlight on the critical role played by Special Forces personnel in safeguarding the country.
