The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power, Government of India, in collaboration with BSES, held the Electrical Safety Day 2025 in New Delhi. The celebration of Electrical Safety Day on June 26, 2025, symbolizes India’s dedication to establishing a zero-harm electrical environment that develops alongside the nation’s clean and smart energy goals.
The theme for this year, “Smart Energy, Safe Nation,” highlighted the importance of integrating safety into all aspects of India’s evolving energy landscape—particularly regarding new technologies such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure, and Rooftop Solar. As power systems become more electrified and decentralized, the related risks have grown significantly, making electrical safety a shared responsibility.
The event was launched by Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, who emphasized the importance of strong safety measures to support India’s swift energy transition. Accompanying him were Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Power; Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority; and Shri Amal Sinha, Director and Group CEO of BSES, who spoke to the attendees about the significance of Electrical Safety. More than 300 representatives from various segments of the energy field—including utilities, regulatory agencies, State Chief Electrical Inspectorate officials, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), OEMs, manufacturers, field technicians, and engaged energy consumers (prosumers)—were present at the event, with many others watching online via a live YouTube broadcast, enhancing the influence and reach of the day’s activities. The event reached 25,000 views within 22 hours on a national scale.
A key feature of the event was the introduction of “Suraksha Shakti”, the official Electrical Safety Mascot, created to promote safety awareness in an appealing and relatable way. Simultaneously, the initial version of the Electrical Safety Handbook was also published.
This collaborative effort between CEA and BSES outlines explicit safety protocols for the installation and upkeep of BESS, solar rooftop systems, and EV chargers. It specifies essential guidelines for utilities, consumers, prosumers, and technicians, acting as a useful reference to mitigate risks such as electrical shocks, fires, and accidents.
The post-inaugural session featured a sequence of technical presentations and expert discussions conducted by CEA, NPTI, BSES, and industry leaders in Earthing Solutions. This year’s Electrical Safety Day signifies an essential partnership among policymakers, utilities, and the community, reinforcing the basis of a Smart Energy, Safe Nation. While India develops its green and digital energy systems, one principle will consistently guide this endeavor—every innovation must be rooted in safety, resilience, and compassion.
