Kharagpur, West Bengal : The persistent efforts of the Kharagpur Civil Society have finally yielded results. At 8:00 AM today, the Forest Department personnel initiated a special campaign beginning from the area in front of the Railway Hospital to remove unauthorized posters and banners nailed to trees.
Despite earlier assurances by various political parties to address this issue, the posters and banners affixed directly onto tree trunks had remained largely undisturbed. Such practices are not only against regulations but also harmful to the health of trees, as hammering nails into them can cause physical damage and stunt their growth.
The movement gained momentum when the Kharagpur Civil Society formally submitted a memorandum to the Forest Department demanding action. Responding to this request, the department undertook this public drive to clear hoardings from trees in different parts of the city for the first time.

Forest Officials emphasized that displaying advertisements on trees violates existing environmental rules and puts the greenery at risk. With the removal of these hoardings, the authorities hope to promote awareness about protecting urban trees and encourage citizens and organizations to respect natural habitats.
This initiative marks a significant step towards preserving Kharagpur environment and reflects the growing cooperation between civil society groups and government departments in safeguarding local green spaces.
