Indian Army Joins Massive Rescue Operation After Taratala Building Collapse in Kolkata

Kolkata: The Indian Army has launched a major search-and-rescue operation in Kolkata’s Taratala area following the sudden collapse of an under-construction godown, with fears that several people may be trapped beneath the debris.

Responding immediately to a distress call from the civil administration, the Army’s Eastern Command deployed four columns comprising specialized rescue personnel, combat engineers and medical teams to assist in the emergency operation.

Army teams are working in close coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Kolkata Police to locate and rescue individuals believed to be trapped under heavy concrete rubble.

Specialist engineering teams have been mobilized to assess structural stability and facilitate safe debris removal, while Army medical personnel remain on standby to provide immediate treatment to rescued victims.

Senior Army officers are personally overseeing and coordinating the rescue mission to ensure rapid response and effective deployment of resources.

The Eastern Command stated that every possible effort is being made to save lives and bring those trapped to safety. The Army also expressed concern for the well-being of affected citizens and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting civil authorities during the crisis.

Rescue operations are continuing amid challenging conditions as teams race against time to search through the collapsed structure. Authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of people trapped or casualties resulting from the incident.
