Kuwait briefly suspended air traffic operations after Iranian attacks heightened security concerns across the Gulf region, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures to safeguard civilian aviation. The decision came against the backdrop of escalating hostilities involving Iran and the United States, which have fuelled fears of a wider regional conflict.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced the temporary closure of Kuwaiti airspace, stating that the measure was implemented to ensure the safety and security of passengers and aircraft. The suspension affected several incoming and outgoing flights, leading to delays and diversions as airlines adjusted their schedules in response to the rapidly changing situation.
The move followed reports of Iranian retaliatory strikes targeting facilities linked to the United States in parts of the Middle East. The attacks were described by Tehran as a response to recent U.S. military operations against Iranian targets. The developments have raised concerns among neighbouring countries over the possibility of the conflict spreading beyond its current scope.
Kuwaiti authorities closely monitored the evolving security environment before deciding to reopen the country’s airspace after determining that the immediate risk had diminished. Aviation officials urged travellers to stay informed through their airlines, warning that flight schedules could continue to change depending on regional developments.
The temporary shutdown highlighted the broader impact of geopolitical tensions on civilian infrastructure and international travel. Gulf nations have increasingly found themselves on alert as military confrontations threaten key transportation routes and strategic facilities in the region.
