Kolkata, April 29, 2026:
As voters across Kolkata turned out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights, Manipal Hospitals Kolkata took a commendable step to ensure that senior citizens were not left behind due to age or health constraints.

All five units of the hospital group—EM Bypass, Mukundapur, Dhakuria, Salt Lake, and Broadway—were fully equipped and mobilized to assist elderly voters, helping them cast their votes safely, comfortably, and with dignity.

Recognizing the mobility and health challenges often faced by senior citizens, the hospital launched a dedicated support initiative. Neighbourhood SPOCs (Single Points of Contact) coordinated end-to-end transportation, ensuring seamless travel from residences to polling booths and back home.

To further strengthen on-ground assistance, MARS ambulances were strategically stationed outside polling booths. These were equipped with wheelchairs and stretchers, and supported by trained medical teams comprising doctors and nurses to address any immediate health concerns. Bedridden senior citizens were also transported to polling stations under medical supervision, ensuring their participation in the electoral process.

Sharing her experience, 84-year-old Gopa Chaudhary from Bairagi Old Age Home said,
“Stepping out to vote was challenging, but I was determined to exercise my right. The support extended by Manipal Hospitals made the entire experience seamless, safe, and comforting. Every detail was managed with exceptional care, giving me confidence and peace of mind.”

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Ayanabh Debgupta, Regional Director – East Region, Manipal Hospitals, stated,
“Elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, and every citizen deserves the opportunity to participate with dignity. For many senior citizens, reaching polling booths is a challenge, and we felt it was our responsibility to support them. Our commitment goes beyond clinical care—we aim to stand by our community in meaningful moments like these.”

This initiative highlights Manipal Hospitals ongoing commitment to community well-being, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility during one of the most important civic exercises in the country.
