The Union Territory of Puducherry has delivered a clear verdict in the 2026 Assembly elections, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returning to power for another term. According to results reported by The Hindu, the ruling alliance, led by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, secured a comfortable majority in the 30-member Assembly, reaffirming voter confidence in the incumbent administration.
Polling for the Assembly was held on April 9, and the counting of votes took place on May 4. The elections witnessed strong voter participation across the region, reflecting high public engagement in the democratic process. The outcome highlights a continued preference for stability and governance under the current leadership.
The All India N.R. Congress emerged as the single largest party, winning the highest number of seats. Its alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party, also made notable gains, contributing to the NDA’s overall majority. Together, the alliance comfortably crossed the halfway mark required to form the government.
Chief Minister Rangasamy retained his seat, reinforcing his political standing and leadership within Puducherry. His victory is widely seen as an endorsement of his government’s performance over the previous term. Several other candidates from the ruling alliance also recorded convincing wins, indicating a consistent trend in favor of the NDA across multiple constituencies.
In contrast, the opposition struggled to make significant inroads. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam emerged as the primary opposition party but failed to secure enough seats to challenge the ruling alliance effectively. The Indian National Congress, once a dominant political force in the territory, saw a further decline in its electoral performance, managing to win only a limited number of seats.
Political observers attribute the NDA’s success to its focus on governance, welfare initiatives, and strong local leadership. The alliance’s campaign, which emphasized development and continuity, appears to have resonated with voters. Meanwhile, the opposition faced challenges in presenting a unified strategy or a compelling alternative vision.
The detailed list of constituency-wise winners reflects a diverse political representation but clearly favors the ruling alliance. Local factors, including candidate credibility and constituency-specific issues, played a significant role in shaping the final outcome.
With this renewed mandate, the NDA is set to form the government once again in Puducherry. The focus now turns to policy implementation and addressing key public concerns, as the newly elected Assembly prepares to begin its next term under Rangasamy’s leadership.
