Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh to Lead Indian Delegation at SCO Defence Ministers’ Meet in Bishkek

India’s Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh is set to lead a high-level Indian delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting scheduled to be held on April 28, 2026, in Bishkek.
The meeting will bring together defence ministers from SCO member states to deliberate on key regional and global security challenges. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening defence cooperation, counter-terrorism strategies, and promoting peace and stability across the region.
This year’s बैठक assumes added significance amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Member countries are likely to exchange views on mitigating the impact of the conflict and enhancing coordinated responses to emerging security threats.
During the meeting, Shri Rajnath Singh is expected to reiterate India’s firm commitment to global peace and security, while emphasizing the country’s consistent policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and extremism. He is also likely to underline India’s constructive role in fostering regional cooperation and stability.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Raksha Mantri is expected to hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts from participating nations, aimed at further strengthening defence ties and strategic partnerships.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, established on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai, is one of the largest regional organisations, comprising India, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus. India became a full member in 2017 and also held the rotating chairmanship in 2023.
The upcoming meeting is expected to play a crucial role in shaping coordinated approaches to contemporary security challenges and reinforcing multilateral cooperation among SCO nations.
