An Observation Made By A High Court Judge Following Abhishek Banerjee’s Rebuke Has Enraged The TMC

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) criticized Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay on 25 November after he said that he may have to approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) to withdraw the Mamata Banerjee-led organization’s recognition as a political party and remove its logo.
The judge’s comment came after state education secretary Manish Jain told the court that the state cabinet had approved state education minister Bratya Basu’s instruction for additional teaching positions to be created to accommodate individuals allegedly handed appointments illegally.
The education secretary added that he wasn’t present when the decision was made at the cabinet meeting. He told the court that the education minister had requested legal counsel before directing the creation of new positions.
Justice Gangopadhyay then questioned how the state Cabinet could make such a decision to accept fraudulently appointed, unqualified persons.
Kalyan Bandopadhyay, a TMC MP and attorney who was present in court, claimed the judge lacked moral standing to criticize the party because the matter at hand was unrelated to the hearing.
Justice Gangopadhyay came under fire from TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh for allegedly misusing his chair of a judge to engage in political activism.
Justice Gangopadhyay has fired his weapons against the TMC administration before. He had requested CBI investigations into the state’s employment practices and the recent teacher recruitment fraud.
Partha Chatterjee, a former minister, was arrested as a result of the SSC recruitment fraud inquiry, which also resulted in the confiscation and seizure of movable and immovable property worth more than Rs 100 crore. Former senior West Bengal Education Department officials, including current Vice Chancellor Subiresh Bhattacharya, TMC MLA, and former West Bengal Board of Primary Education President Manik Bhattacharya, were detained on suspicion of participating in a scam that involved offering jobs as teachers and non-teaching staff in state-run schools in return for money.
In an interview with the Bengali television news channel, ABP Ananda on September 20, Justice Gangopadhyay criticized both the Trinamool Congress and the state government.
