JSP Trust Launches Event Celebrating 125th Birth Anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam

The Jatiya Sahitya Prakashan (JSP) Trust held a press conference at the Press Club (Back A/c), Kolkata, on 23rd June 2025, from 12:30 to 1:30 PM to announce a landmark event commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of legendary poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Scheduled for 3rd August 2025, from 4 to 8 PM at Ramakrishna Mancha, the event marks the 4th episode of JSP’s Year-Long Post Silver Jubilee Celebration (November 2024 – December 2025), organized in collaboration with the Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre.

The press conference featured addresses by distinguished personalities, including Sri Goutam De (Former Director, ICCR Kolkata), Sri Debasish Bosu (Eminent Poet and Reciter), Sri Nagathihalli Ramesh (Renowned Poet, Short Film Maker, and Activist from Karnataka), and Sri Pitambar Barik (Editor, Pratibeshi). The briefing was delivered by Sri Shaktimoy Das, Founder Secretary of JSP Trust.
Key highlights include the announcement of the Kazi Nazrul Memorial International Award 2025, introduced as part of the Post Silver Jubilee celebrations. The first recipient of this prestigious award will be Sri Nagathihalli Ramesh, in recognition of his lifetime contributions to Indian literature, film, journalism, and social activism. The award comprises ₹1 lakh, a memento, certificate of appreciation, and other honors, to be presented on 3rd August.

JSP Trust also revealed that the broader festival honors 19th-century literary and cultural pioneers and India’s freedom movement. Details of the August program and international guests will be disclosed in a follow-up press conference 15 days prior to the event.
