Neeraj Chopra Reflects on Paris Diamond League Win, Calls for Technical Improvements

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 23rd June 2025

India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra clinched victory at the Paris Diamond League with a best throw of 88.16 meters but admitted afterward that his performance still left room for improvement. Despite topping the leaderboard from his very first attempt, Chopra was candid in acknowledging the technical flaws in his execution.

Speaking after the competition, the Olympic and world champion said that while he was pleased with the win, he was not entirely satisfied with how he performed. “My run-up was too fast and I couldn’t control my speed properly,” Chopra noted. “Yes, I won, but I still need more control when I throw.”

Chopra opened the competition with his winning mark of 88.16 meters, followed by a second successful attempt of 85.10 meters. However, three of his next attempts resulted in fouls, and his final throw measured 82.69 meters. Despite the inconsistencies, his initial effort was enough to secure first place, ahead of Germany’s Julian Weber.

This victory marks Chopra’s first major Diamond League title of the 2025 season and highlights his strong return to form. However, the athlete remains focused on refining his technique, particularly improving the coordination between his run-up and release to ensure more consistent throws.

Chopra’s honest self-assessment reflects his determination to push beyond current achievements, with his sights still set on breaking the elusive 90-meter mark more regularly. The Paris result adds momentum to his 2025 campaign, especially ahead of the key international tournaments scheduled later in the year.

As he continues to dominate the javelin circuit, Chopra’s combination of elite performance and self-awareness positions him well for even greater success in the months to come.
