Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Launches PMGSY-IV from Bherunda; Gifts Thousands of Crores to Madhya Pradesh

In the presence of CM Mohan Yadav, Shivraj Singh approved ₹1,763 crore for PMGSY-IV, ₹261.81 crore for PM-JANMAN projects, and handed over a ₹2,055 crore sanction for PMAY-G.

Bherunda (Sehore)/Bhopal/New Delhi, May 10, 2026:

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, launched PMGSY-IV during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) held on Sunday in Bherunda, Sehore. He dedicated numerous major gifts related to roads, housing, and rural development to the state. The event was attended by M.P. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Union Ministers of State Shri Kamlesh Paswan and Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, State Minister Shri Karan Singh Verma, and various MLAs.

Key Highlights of the Launch

Launching PMGSY-IV at the event organized by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, Shri Chouhan remarked:

“A village road is not just a path; it is the gateway to prosperity, dignity, education, healthcare, markets, and opportunities.”

He emphasized that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the BJP government is committed to bringing tangible changes to the lives of the poor, farmers, and women.

In a significant boost to his own constituency, 259 roads totaling approximately 600 km were approved for the Vidisha region, benefiting 264 habitations. Shri Chouhan asserted that over ₹500 crore worth of roads would be built in the Vidisha parliamentary constituency.

Political Counter-Attack

Shivraj Singh took a dig at the opposition, recalling the era of broken roads and power crises. He noted that while it used to be a struggle to travel even 18 km in M.P. in the past, the state has now emerged as a national leader in rural road construction. On the issue of wheat procurement, he dismissed Congress’s protests as baseless, assuring farmers that pending verifications would be cleared and every eligible grain would be purchased.

Empowering “Lakhpati Didis”

The Minister highlighted the Lakhpati Didi campaign, aiming to enhance the economic empowerment of women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). He promised that physical verification for PMAY-G would be conducted based on new surveys to ensure no poor person is left without a “pucca” house.

Madhya Pradesh Leads the Nation

The event also celebrated M.P.’s national standing in rural infrastructure:

  • Rank 1: In completing the maximum length of roads among large states (90,766 km).
  • Rank 1: In quality control mechanisms.
  • Top Performer: In maintenance post the Defect Liability Period (DLP), with an expenditure of ₹1,044 crore.

CM Dr. Mohan Yadav lauded Shri Chouhan’s efforts, stating that the state government is working in lockstep with the Center. Both leaders signaled positive action on regional demands, including bringing Narmada water to remaining villages, local road approvals, and developing irrigation projects.
