After India’s Victory Over South Africa, Shikhar Dhawan Said, Thanks To Keshav Maharaj
After a stunning seven-wicket victory over South Africa in Ranchi, the second-strongest Indian team came back in the three-match series to claim a 1-1 tie. Team India never found 278 to be a daunting goal, but South Africa did see some optimism when Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill left the game during the powerplay. However, India turned the game around thanks to a match-winning combination between Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, and the chase was completed with 4.1 overs remaining. India’s captain for this series, Shikhar Dhawan, gave Keshav Maharaj of South Africa credit for the victory after the game, which left former India player and presenter Murali Kartik inconsolable.
On that pitch, South Africa would have preferred 20–25 runs more, but in addition to the outstanding 161-run partnership between Iyer and Ishan, India also benefited from the dew factor during the chase, which Dhawan had mentioned at the time of toss and reiterated in a rather cheeky manner after the victory.
Shikhar, you wanted to do something different and it worked extremely well for you at the toss, Kartik stated during the post-game ceremony as the presenter.
“Worked perfectly well for us, thanks to Keshav that he opted to bat,” Dhawan retorted. I’m relieved that the dew arrived on schedule. And the two started laughing at once.
Iyer and Ishan received praise from Dhawan for their work, though. Iyer struck his second career run on his way to his undefeated 113, while the left-hander fell seven runs short of his first ODI tonne.
