Gemini Brings Voice-Controlled TV Settings to Select TCL Google TVs

Google has expanded the capabilities of its artificial intelligence assistant, Gemini, by enabling it to control television settings through voice commands on select TCL Google TV models. The update marks another step in the company’s efforts to integrate AI more deeply into everyday consumer technology and simplify interactions with smart devices.

The new functionality allows users to adjust a variety of television settings using natural language, eliminating the need to navigate multiple menus with a remote control. Viewers can instruct Gemini to modify picture quality, switch between viewing modes, alter audio settings or optimise the television for specific types of content such as sports, movies or gaming.

The feature is also designed to assist users in resolving common viewing issues. For example, if the screen appears too dim or dialogue is difficult to hear, Gemini can identify the problem and automatically adjust the relevant settings to improve the experience. The conversational interface aims to make smart television controls more intuitive, particularly for those who may find traditional settings menus complicated or time-consuming.

Initially, the feature is being rolled out on selected TCL Google TV models in the United States. Reports indicate that compatible devices include the company’s premium television lineup operating on Android 14 or later versions of the Google TV platform. TCL is expected to receive an early advantage with the technology before it becomes available on devices from other manufacturers.

The development reflects Google’s broader strategy of embedding Gemini across its expanding ecosystem of products and services. By extending AI-powered assistance beyond smartphones and computers into home entertainment systems, the company is seeking to create a more seamless and personalised user experience. As voice-driven interfaces continue to evolve, features like Gemini’s settings control may become a standard component of connected home devices, reshaping expectations around convenience and accessibility in digital entertainment.
