The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest outside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters, demanding the resignation of Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains over alleged question-paper leaks in the State.
The protestors accused the Punjab government of failing to protect the integrity of competitive examinations and demanded accountability from those responsible. BJP leaders alleged that repeated reports of examination irregularities had raised serious concerns among students and their families, who depend on fair and transparent recruitment and admission processes. The demonstration was part of the BJP’s wider criticism of the AAP government in Punjab. Party workers raised slogans against the State government and targeted the education minister, arguing that responsibility should be fixed when examination papers are allegedly compromised.
The BJP said students preparing for competitive examinations invest considerable time and resources in their studies and that paper leaks can undermine their efforts and create uncertainty over their future. The party demanded that the Punjab government take strict action against those found responsible and ensure that affected candidates are not disadvantaged.
The allegations have also triggered a political confrontation between the BJP and the AAP. While the BJP has sought the education minister’s resignation, the AAP government has rejected claims that question papers of competitive examinations were leaked during its tenure. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has maintained that no competitive examination paper was leaked under his government. The AAP has accused the BJP of attempting to politicise issues concerning students and examinations.
The dispute comes at a time when examination security and paper leaks remain sensitive issues across India. Political parties have repeatedly faced pressure to ensure that recruitment and entrance examinations are conducted without malpractice. The BJP’s protest in Delhi is therefore likely to keep the issue in the political spotlight, with the Opposition demanding greater accountability from the Punjab government.
