India’s Asia Cup hero, Varun Chakaravarthy, has come out in support of Ishit Bhatt, a fifth-grade student from Gujarat, who recently faced widespread trolling after his appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 (KBC 17). The young contestant’s confident and outspoken demeanor during the episode, including remarks like “Don’t start explaining the rules to me” and his request to “put four locks” on an answer, went viral on social media, drawing both amusement and backlash.
Many users criticised the boy for what they called disrespectful behaviour towards host Amitabh Bachchan, while others accused him of arrogance. However, Chakaravarthy strongly condemned the online hate directed at the child, urging people to show empathy instead of judgment. “He is a kid, for God’s sake! Let him grow! If you can’t tolerate a kid, imagine the society still tolerating many nut cases like the ones commenting on this kid and much more!” the cricketer wrote on social media.
Chakaravarthy also lashed out at those who mock others online, describing them as “cowards running their mouths without any sense.” His comments quickly gained support from fans who agreed that social media users had overreacted to a child’s behaviour on a television show.
Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan handled the situation on the show with grace, later remarking that children sometimes act out of overconfidence and should be guided, not shamed. The incident has sparked a broader discussion about the ethics of social media trolling, especially involving minors in the public eye.
Chakaravarthy’s response highlights the growing concern over online bullying and reinforces the need for compassion in how society treats children, particularly when their moments of innocence or overconfidence become viral sensations.
