EVM Row Heats Up in Bengal as Mamata Banerjee Visits School

News Mania Desk / 30th April 2026

Amid rising political tension in West Bengal ahead of vote counting, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Sakhawat Memorial Government Girls’ High School, where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are reportedly being stored. The visit comes in the backdrop of allegations by the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) that attempts were made to tamper with ballot units.

The TMC has raised concerns over the security of EVMs, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to manipulate the voting process. These claims have further intensified the already charged political atmosphere in the state.

However, the situation has also triggered sharp reactions from opposition supporters and sections of the public. Critics have dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, with some accusing Mamata Banerjee of creating unnecessary drama and attempting to mislead voters at a crucial juncture.

Election authorities have maintained that strict protocols are in place to safeguard EVMs, including round-the-clock security, CCTV surveillance, and the presence of representatives from multiple political parties. They have urged all stakeholders to refrain from spreading unverified claims that could undermine public trust in the electoral process.

As counting day approaches, the controversy underscores the deep political polarization in West Bengal. Whether the allegations hold ground or are part of election rhetoric, the focus remains on ensuring a transparent and credible counting process.
