Nestlé India Dismisses Maggi Infestation Allegations, Cites Independent Lab Reports

News Mania Desks/ Piyal Chatterjee/14th June 2026

Nestlé India has rejected claims that Maggi noodles were found to be infested, asserting that extensive quality checks and independent laboratory testing confirmed the safety of the product. The company described the allegations as unsubstantiated and based on information shared through an unverified social media account.

The issue came to light after posts circulating online alleged that Maggi packets contained signs of infestation. Following the reports, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) sought an explanation from the company regarding the matter.

In response, Nestlé India said it had promptly activated its established quality assurance protocols. According to the company, a retained sample from the same production batch linked to the complaint was sent to an FSSAI-notified and NABL-accredited independent laboratory for detailed examination. The analysis reportedly found no evidence of infestation or any compromise in product quality.

The company further stated that additional tests were conducted on market samples and retained products from the relevant batch. Results from these assessments also confirmed that the noodles met all applicable food safety standards and quality requirements.

Nestlé India noted that efforts to contact the individual who initially raised the complaint were unsuccessful. The company added that no physical sample of the allegedly affected product had been made available for verification, limiting the possibility of conducting a direct investigation into the specific claim.

The food and beverage giant said it had submitted all relevant documentation, including laboratory findings and internal quality control records, to FSSAI as part of its response. It maintained that the evidence strongly supported its position that the allegations lacked merit. The controversy has revived memories of the 2015 Maggi crisis, when the popular instant noodle brand faced a temporary nationwide ban over concerns related to lead content before returning to store shelves following fresh tests and legal proceedings.
