The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has registered a strong comeback in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2025, winning three of the four top posts. The results reaffirm ABVP’s dominance on campus after the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) briefly interrupted its run last year by securing the president’s seat following a long gap.
Aryan Maan of ABVP was elected as the new president with 28,841 votes, defeating NSUI’s Joslyn Nandita Choudhary by a margin of more than 16,000 votes. His victory marks a major win for the RSS-affiliated student body, which has historically maintained a stronghold in DU’s politics. Along with him, ABVP’s Kunal Choudhary and Deepika Jha secured the posts of secretary and joint secretary respectively, tightening the organization’s grip on the union.
The only consolation for NSUI came in the form of the vice-president’s post, which was won by its candidate Rahul Jhansla. However, NSUI leaders criticized the conduct of the polls, alleging that ABVP benefitted from the support of the university administration, state authorities, as well as the RSS-BJP network and police.
This year’s elections saw a voter turnout of around 40 percent, reflecting moderate participation among students. Left-wing outfits including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students’ Association (AISA) failed to make any mark, continuing their recent struggles in DU politics.
The DUSU polls have traditionally been a launchpad for future political leaders, with several prominent national figures such as Arun Jaitley and Ajay Maken rising from student politics at Delhi University. With ABVP reclaiming three posts this year, the outcome is being seen as a sign of its continued influence over student sentiment in one of India’s most politically active campuses.
