RPF Kharagpur Unearth Cannabis Smuggling Attempt at Hijli Railway Station

Kharagpur : In a major success against illegal transportation of narcotic substances through railways, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Hijli Post along with RPF/CIB/Kharagpur apprehended one person carrying contraband Cannabis (Ganja) at Hijli Railway Station on 14.05.2026.
Acting on reliable source information regarding transportation of contraband articles through trains, a joint raid and search operation was conducted by officers and staff of RPF/Post/Hijli and RPF/CIB/Kharagpur under the supervision of PC/RPF/Post/Hijli Shashi Shankar.

During the operation, Train No. 12815 Nandankanan Express arrived at Platform No. 01 of Hijli Railway Station at about 17:30 hrs. The raiding team identified one suspicious person carrying a blue colour travelling bag near the general coach.

On interrogation, the person initially attempted to mislead the team by giving inconsistent statements. Upon sustained questioning, he disclosed his identity as Anil Singh, aged about 33 years, resident of Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

The individual admitted that the bag in his possession contained Cannabis (Ganja) which he had collected near Bhubaneswar Railway Station and was transporting towards Fatehpur for illegal sale for personal gain. He failed to produce any valid authority or legal documents for carrying the contraband substance.

Following due procedure under the provisions of the NDPS Act, the detained person opted to have the search conducted in presence of a Gazetted Officer.

Accordingly, Jitendra Kumar Singh, ASC/RPF/WS/KGP attended the spot as Gazetted Officer in presence of independent witnesses and RPF staff.

During the search, four packets wrapped with brown cello tape containing suspected Cannabis (Ganja) were recovered from the travelling bag. The total weight of the seized contraband was found to be approximately 4 Kg 100 grams with an approx. market value of Rs. 2,05,000/-.

The recovered contraband, along with the bag and railway ticket, was seized following all legal formalities. Subsequently, the accused was arrested at about 00:45 hrs on 15.05.2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.

During personal search at RPF/Post/Hijli, two mobile phones along with SIM cards were recovered from his possession. His family members were also informed regarding the arrest.

After completion of all legal formalities, the arrested person along with the seized articles was handed over to GRPS/Kharagpur for further legal action. In this connection, GRPS/Kharagpur has registered a case vide No. 58/2026 dated 15.05.2026 under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act.

The successful operation reflects the continued commitment of RPF towards curbing illegal activities and ensuring safety and security in railway premises and trains.
