Byatikram Group to Host the Second Edition of “Remembering the Maestro- S.D. Burman” in Shillong

The Byatikram Group, in association with The Times of India and Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban is set to present the second edition of “Remembering the Maestro – S.D. Burman”, a grand musical tribute celebrating the timeless legacy of the legendary composer Sachin Dev Burman. The much-awaited evening of melody and reminiscence will be held on Sunday, 9th November 2025, at 5:00 PM at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong, Meghalaya.
The press meet for the event was officially held today at Shillong Press Club in the presence of Dr. Saumen Bharatiya, Patron-in-Chief, Byatikram Group, Pankaj Deb, President, Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban along with the members of Byatikram Group — Alakananda Sen, Pritam Lahiri and Urmimala Choudhury.
S.D. Burman (1st October 1906 – 31st October 1975) lived for 69 years, and as a symbolic tribute, 69 artists will perform a chorus by Bahaar Group on this occasion, celebrating his remarkable contribution to Indian music.
The event will be graced by Shri Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar, the Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, whose distinguished presence will lend the occasion a special aura of dignity and significance.
The distinguished guests who will grace the occasion include Lou Majaw, Renowned Singer; Manisha Hazarika, Eminent Singer and Sister-in-law of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika; Naba Bhattacharjee, Environment Advisor and EIA Expert; Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Tripathi, Director NERIM Group of Institution; Soheli Seal, Advocate; Seema Sharma, Advocate; Manika Chandra, Dancer; Dr. Reema Das Mallik, Founder, Illumis Clinic, and many more.
A special highlight of the event will be conferring of the “SD Burman Memorial Byatikram Lifetime Achievement Award 2025”to the eminent musician Rudy Wallang, one of India’s most respected blues-rock guitarists, vocalists, and composers. Renowned for his deep-rooted musical sensibility and soulful artistry, Rudy Wallang’s illustrious career spans over four decades, during which he has collaborated with and shared stages alongside some of the most celebrated musicians across the globe.
Last year, the “S.D. Burman Memorial Byatikram Lifetime Achievement Award 2024” was conferred upon Assam’s heartthrob Zubeen Garg in the august presence of Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the Hon’ble Governor of Assam, and Shri Jishnu Dev Varma, the Hon’ble Governor of Telangana.
Sharing his thoughts on the event, Dr. Saumen Bharatiya, Patron-in-Chief, Byatikram Group, said that, “This initiative is our humble tribute to the legendary S.D. Burman, whose music transcends generations and continues to inspire countless artists. S.D. Burman is one of the most renowned musical icons of the Northeast, standing tall alongside legendary gems such as Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Jayanta Hazarika, Zubeen Garg, who have carried the legacy of music from Guwahati to Shillong and across the entire region. Through this celebration, we aim to keep his spirit alive and remind everyone of the golden era of Indian music that shaped our nation’s cultural identity.”
Pankaj Deb expressed his heartfelt emotions, saying that “S.D. Burman’s connection with the Northeast runs deep. Born into the royal Manikya family of Tripura, his music carried the soul of this region from its folk tunes and flowing rivers to the mystic hills that echo in many of his melodies. Shillong, a cradle of musical talent, truly reflects his spirit and artistic roots. I am really happy to be a part of this musical tribute to S.D. Burman. My sincere thanks to Byatikram for this privilege. It’s been a long time since I have known them, and I truly appreciate the way they are doing their work. Honouring the maestro here in Shillong feels like bringing his music back to where it belongs.”
In homage to the maestro’s unparalleled contribution to Indian music, the evening will also feature a series of soulful renditions of S.D. Burman’s evergreen compositions, performed by by a stellar lineup of artists including Jayati Bhattacharjee, Chandrima Bhattacharjee, Binita Devi, Anaya Brahma, Urmimala Choudhury, Dr. Jayashree Devi and Indrani Dutta. The event will also include dance performance by Panchali Sarkar, adding a vibrant visual dimension to the musical tribute. These performances, reimagined with contemporary finesse, will transport the audience into a world of nostalgia, artistry, and emotion echoing the spirit of Burman’s immortal genius.
Through this annual celebration, Byatikram Group continues its cherished endeavour to honour India’s rich musical heritage, paying tribute to the maestros whose creations continue to inspire generations. The event promises to be a confluence of memory, melody, and magnificence — a fitting ode to the enduring legacy of S.D. Burman.
