Bail for Men Accused of Assaulting CJP Founder Sparks Controversy in Jaipur

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 18th June 2026

A fresh controversy has erupted in Jaipur after five men accused of assaulting Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke during a protest were released on bail and later welcomed with garlands by supporters. Videos of the celebration, which quickly spread across social media, have drawn criticism and reignited debate over political violence and public conduct.

The incident occurred during a CJP demonstration at Shaheed Smarak in Jaipur, where party members had gathered to raise concerns over issues affecting students, including alleged examination irregularities and unemployment. As Dipke arrived at the protest venue accompanied by supporters, a group of men allegedly approached him, pulled at his scarf and physically assaulted him. Videos from the scene showed a brief scuffle before police personnel intervened and brought the situation under control.

Following the attack, authorities arrested five individuals in connection with the incident. The accused were later granted bail by a local court. However, the controversy deepened after footage emerged showing some of the men being greeted with flower garlands and cheers after their release. The visuals prompted criticism from several quarters, with opponents arguing that celebrating individuals accused of violence sends the wrong message and undermines respect for the legal process.

Police officials have confirmed that investigations into the assault are continuing. Authorities are examining evidence, including video recordings and witness statements, to determine the sequence of events and establish the roles of those involved.

Reacting to the incident, Dipke said the attack would not deter him or his movement from continuing to campaign on issues affecting students and young people. He maintained that the CJP would continue to raise concerns regarding education, employment and governance despite attempts to intimidate its members.

The Cockroach Janta Party, which emerged from youth-led protests over examination and employment issues, has gained considerable attention in recent months through social media campaigns and public demonstrations. The latest incident has further intensified public discussion surrounding political activism, freedom of expression and the response to acts of violence during protests.
