India Enter Thomas Cup Semi-Finals With Clinical Win Over Chinese Taipei

India’s men’s badminton team delivered an emphatic performance to defeat Chinese Taipei and book a place in the semi-finals of the Thomas Cup 2026, ensuring a medal finish in the prestigious competition.The Indian side secured a dominant 3-0 victory in the quarter-final tie, showcasing strength across both singles and doubles categories. The win guarantees India at least a bronze medal, as both losing semi-finalists are awarded third place in the tournament format.

Lakshya Sen set the tone for India with a determined comeback in the opening singles match against Chou Tien Chen. After losing the first game, Sen displayed resilience and composure to turn the match around, giving India an early lead in the contest.

The advantage was further extended by the accomplished doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. The duo faced stiff resistance but held their nerve in a tightly contested encounter, eventually clinching victory to put India firmly in control with a 2-0 lead.

Rising shuttler Ayush Shetty then sealed the tie in style, delivering a confident straight-games win over Lin Chun-Yi in the second singles match. His performance ensured a clean sweep for India and confirmed their progression to the last four.

India entered the knockout stage after a solid group campaign, registering wins over Canada and Australia while suffering a narrow loss to China. The team’s commanding display in the quarter-finals underlined their growing confidence and depth, with both experienced players and emerging talents stepping up when required.

The result reinforces India’s strong presence in international badminton, particularly in team competitions. Having previously lifted the Thomas Cup title in 2022, the current squad appears determined to mount another serious title challenge.
