Jhargram Administration on High Alert Following Post-Election Tensions and Violence

Jhargram, West Bengal : In the wake of rising tensions and alleged incidents of post-poll violence following the announcement of election results, the Jhargram district administration has adopted a strict approach to maintain law and order. The administration remains on high alert to prevent further disturbances.At a press conference held on 6th May, District Magistrate-cum-District Election Officer Dr. Aakanksha Bhaskar, Superintendent of Police Manav Singla, CRPF West Bengal Sector Commandant Ravi Shankar, and other senior officials outlined firm steps to ensure peace across the district.Officials appealed to all political parties to instruct their workers to practice restraint and exercise patience during this sensitive period. The public was also urged not to fall prey to provocation and to report any suspicious or unlawful activities immediately to the authorities.So far, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incidents, and several others detained for questioning. Reports have surfaced about vandalism and forcible occupation of Trinamool Congress (TMC) party offices in various parts of Jhargram. Allegations of assault on party leaders and workers were also reported. Additionally, offices including Jhargram Municipality and Shilda Panchayat were reportedly locked, further heightening tensions.However, local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have reportedly intervened in some areas to reopen locked offices and resume normal functions. BJP leaders have also advised their cadres to remain calm and avoid any violent actions. At the same time, counter-allegations indicate that some newly active BJP members might be involved in the incidents under investigation.SP Manav Singla issued a stern warning, stating that any attempts to disturb peace or commit violence would be dealt with decisively. District Magistrate Dr. Aakanksha Bhaskar emphasized that just as the administration, police, and central forces ensured peaceful elections, similarly strong measures will be taken against any form of post-poll violence.CRPF Commandant Ravi Shankar also called upon the people of Jhargram to maintain peace and harmony. Deputy Commandant of CRPF 184 Battalion, Chandu Koley, was also present at the briefing.Officials reassured citizens that maintaining a free, fair, and peaceful environment remains their utmost priority and that no individual or group is above the law. They reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against anyone attempting to disrupt peace in Jhargram.
